Why You Should Always Forgive

Forgiving someone, depending on the situation, can be a really challenging thing to do. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is even give that person a second thought. We spend almost more time replaying the situation over and over in our mind, recalling specifically what happened or what was said, and possibly even thinking of ways to get even. However, I feel like this is a huge waste of time and energy. Instead,  I think one should spend their energy and time thinking about what they've learned from the situation and how they can apply that to life in the future.

If you continue to dwell in the situation and hold a grudge, it can send an unwelcoming signal that you don't want to be bothered, thus preventing new friendships and experiences from occurring. And you may truly not want to be bothered, but you don't deserve to be unhappy due to someone's actions or words. There's always more to explore in life and once you forgive, you let that negative cloud pass and you welcome new things to come into your life - whether you realize it or not.

It should also be said that forgiving someone is not sign of weakness or that they've "won." Forgiving means you made the decision to move on and heal, and I think forgivingness shows signs of courage and maturity. Dwelling in the situation and becoming completely absorbed in it will only truly hurt you. Holding a grudge will only hurt you more than them, plus it's unproductive and exhausting. It's better to face the problem, forgive the person, and move on. If anything, for your own peace of mind. This will also help you to be more present in your life, rather getting stuck in the past. We always want to move forward, and part of moving forward is moving on and making peace. There's no going back and changing the past, so we might as well accept it for what it is and let life go on.  Everyone's human and that means everyone makes mistakes. Forgiving doesn't necessarily mean second chance, it just means you accept what has happened, you only want positivity in your life, and that you are ready to move on.
